The Dalton Foundation Awards True Freedom

$20,000 Grant

“The ministry will implode under its growth,” said Ray Dalton, the Founder and President, of Parts Source and President of the Dalton Foundation, “Building a solid infrastructure is essential to supporting and sustaining the growing ministry.”

The Dalton Foundation awards True Freedom a grant for $20,000.  The money is to be used to modernize and upgrade the ministry’s corporate structure and to provide administrative support to undergird the organization’s rapid growth.

The Dalton Foundation is a grant-making and program-based philanthropic non-profit that serves Northeastern Ohio and third-world countries abroad. The foundation exists to provide hope and effect positive change in the lives of women and children, those in need of healthcare and individuals returning home from incarceration, by developing strategic partnerships on a local, national, and global scale; reaching out effectively to “the least of these” in greatest need.

True Freedom Partners with Setting Captives Free, Receives $10,000 Grant

Mike Cleveland

Setting Captives Free is a non-denominational ministry which teaches the biblical principles of freedom in Jesus Christ. Founder and President, Mike Cleveland, was captive to habitual sins for many years. He finally began to seek help and learned the biblical solution to his sin problem: repentance, forgiveness, and the newness of life that comes through the gospel. In January, 1999, Mike found forgiveness of sins in Jesus Christ and God changed his heart. Since that time, he has been completely free from all forms of habitual sin, by God's grace.

In March of 2015 True Freedom established a partnership with Setting Captives Free.  "The materials produced by this Christ-centered organization are phenomenal," says Michael Swiger, Executive Director of True Freedom.  "We are excited to utilize Setting Captives Free in our Addiction Recovery and Discipleship programs.    For more information on Setting Captive Free visit their website at

True Freedom

Reaches over 40,000 in 2014

Through the grace of God, True Freedom experienced exponential growth in 2014, touching over 40,000 lives with the gospel of Jesus Christ!

The prison ministry was blessed to expand in several new directions.  Throughout the year True Freedom entered into negotiations with Cuyahoga County, to place a full-time chaplain in the Juvenile Justice Center in Cleveland – free-of-charge to the county, to reach the youth with the gospel.  The many hours of ground work paid off, and in October True Freedom hired a new Chaplain, Brian Luton, who daily ministers at the Juvenile Justice Center in Cleveland, touching children's lives.   Brian joined Rae Borders, who currently serves as True Freedom’s female chaplain at that facility.

Earlier in the year True Freedom was approached by officials at the Grafton Correctional Institution and asked to take over programming for the Faith Dorm at the Grafton Reintegration Center.  We now weekly offer the Alpha Course, Reformers Unanimous, a Christ-Based Alcoholics Anonymous program, a mentorship program, worship services and Bible studies at that one facility, while continuing our weekly programming at Lorain Correctional, Grafton Correctional, Mansfield Correctional, Richland Correctional, Northeast Correctional, and the Cleveland Justice Center.

In addition to the new opportunities, God also blessed us with dozens of new volunteers, with the result that over 25,000 inmates attended our offerings with nearly 3,000 making a profession of faith in Jesus Christ!

Inmate Film Crew Produces Video at True Freedom

In February a film crew consisting of three inmates and a Department Supervisor from Grafton Reintegration Center visited the headquarters of True Freedom to film a short documentary that was initially aired within the Ohio Department of Corrections, at all of the prisons within the Northeast Region of the State.  "It was a privilege to have the men temporarily released to utilize the skills they are learning."

The video featured True Freedom's re-entry program as well as the weekly Addiction Recovery program that meets weekly in the inner city of Cleveland.

True Freedom Partners with Cuyahoga County Juvenile Justice Center
After nearly a year in the development, True Freedom has entered into an agreement with the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court system to provide chaplain services FREE-OF-CHARGE at the Juvenile Detention Center located at the corner of 93rd and Quincy in Cleveland, Ohio.  The facility has been without a chaplain since the county de-funded the position over three years ago.

In order to meet the spiritual needs of the juveniles housed in the facility, True Freedom has placed two chaplains: Brian Luton to minister to the boys, and Rae Borders to minister to the girls.  In addition to providing direct ministry, True Freedom is now responsible for all Religious Services that take place at the facility.

Governor Signs Bill at True Freedom

The Governor of Ohio, John Kasich, visited the offices of True Freedom Ministries.  The governor chose to perform the bill signing ceremony here because it is “the headquarters of True Freedom Ministries” (Call and Post, July 18, 2012).

The bill revises Ohio law so that unintended penalties for ex-offenders are minimized. Ex-offenders can achieve “Certificates of Qualifications for Employment” and obtain limited driving privileges for work purposes. In addition, ex-offenders meeting certain criteria can also obtain cosmetology, optical, construction and security guard credentials.   All this allows ex-offenders to be able to earn a living and more easily reintegrate into the community.

True Freedom is committed to using this law to help inmates re-enter society as productive, godly members of society.
