A Call to prayer and Fasting for the Juvenile Justice Center

Since launching back in 2012, True Freedom has had an active presence at the Juvenile Justice Center in downtown Cleveland.  Initially a half dozen volunteers visited weekly.  Then in 2014 True Freedom entered into an agreement whereby we provide two chaplains, one male and one female, free-of-charge to the county, who provide a wide range of services.  The work these dedicated staff and volunteers perform is absolutely essential to the temporal and eternal futures of these young men and women, and that is why we are inviting you to join us in a concert of prayer every Wednesday at noon – praying for the souls of these young men and women and praying for revival among the population and the staff.  Furthermore, we invite you to fast for this critical ministry the last Wednesday of each month.  After all, God gives us a tremendous promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14 – “if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Inmate Film Crew Produces Video at True Freedom

In February a film crew consisting of three inmates and a Department Supervisor from Grafton Reintegration Center visited the headquarters of True Freedom to film a short documentary that was initially aired within the Ohio Department of Corrections, at all of the prisons within the Northeast Region of the State.  "It was a privilege to have the men temporarily released to utilize the skills they are learning."

The video featured True Freedom's re-entry program as well as the weekly Addiction Recovery program that meets weekly in the inner city of Cleveland.

Governor Signs Bill at True Freedom

The Governor of Ohio, John Kasich, visited the offices of True Freedom Ministries.  The governor chose to perform the bill signing ceremony here because it is “the headquarters of True Freedom Ministries” (Call and Post, July 18, 2012).

The bill revises Ohio law so that unintended penalties for ex-offenders are minimized. Ex-offenders can achieve “Certificates of Qualifications for Employment” and obtain limited driving privileges for work purposes. In addition, ex-offenders meeting certain criteria can also obtain cosmetology, optical, construction and security guard credentials.   All this allows ex-offenders to be able to earn a living and more easily reintegrate into the community.

True Freedom is committed to using this law to help inmates re-enter society as productive, godly members of society.

True Freedom

Reaches over 40,000 in 2014

Through the grace of God, True Freedom experienced exponential growth in 2014, touching over 40,000 lives with the gospel of Jesus Christ!

The prison ministry was blessed to expand in several new directions.  Throughout the year True Freedom entered into negotiations with Cuyahoga County, to place a full-time chaplain in the Juvenile Justice Center in Cleveland – free-of-charge to the county, to reach the youth with the gospel.  The many hours of ground work paid off, and in October True Freedom hired a new Chaplain, Brian Luton, who daily ministers at the Juvenile Justice Center in Cleveland, touching children's lives.   Brian joined Rae Borders, who currently serves as True Freedom’s female chaplain at that facility.

Earlier in the year True Freedom was approached by officials at the Grafton Correctional Institution and asked to take over programming for the Faith Dorm at the Grafton Reintegration Center.  We now weekly offer the Alpha Course, Reformers Unanimous, a Christ-Based Alcoholics Anonymous program, a mentorship program, worship services and Bible studies at that one facility, while continuing our weekly programming at Lorain Correctional, Grafton Correctional, Mansfield Correctional, Richland Correctional, Northeast Correctional, and the Cleveland Justice Center.

In addition to the new opportunities, God also blessed us with dozens of new volunteers, with the result that over 25,000 inmates attended our offerings with nearly 3,000 making a profession of faith in Jesus Christ!
